Should you take CBD oil in the morning or in the evening?
By Vapor Spirit Fachteam

There is no universally best time of day for CBD oil: many take it in the evening 30 to 60 minutes before going to bed as part of their evening routine, others start in the morning – or divide the daily amount into two to three small portions. What matters is not the time of day alone, but your routine, your dosage and the regularity of intake.
Short answer: the right time of intake at a glance
The following overview shows which times of day have become established in practice depending on the daily schedule. Many of our customers report that after two to three weeks of regular intake they found the routine that suits them.
Your routine | Recommended time of day | Note |
Evening routine | Evening, 30–60 min before going to bed | A fixed evening routine makes regularity easier |
Morning routine | In the morning with breakfast | Take with a meal that contains fat |
Spread over the day | 2–3 small doses (morning, midday, evening) | Smaller individual amounts |
After exercise | After training or in the evening | As part of the post-workout routine |
Taking CBD oil in the morning: advantages
Many people who want to make CBD a fixed part of the start of their day choose to take it in the morning. CBD is not intoxicating; at usual dosages, most users do not report tiredness. Taking it directly with breakfast is practical: CBD is fat-soluble, and a meal containing fats can improve absorption in the body.
Combining it with coffee is also unproblematic. Start in the morning with a small dose, for example two to three drops of a 10 % oil, and observe how your body responds. You can find detailed instructions in our guide to CBD oil dosage and intake.
Taking CBD oil in the evening: advantages
Taking it in the evening is the most popular option. Many take the drops 30 to 60 minutes before going to sleep; CBD oil taken sublingually is partly absorbed through the oral mucosa.
Many make the drops a fixed part of their evening routine: brushing teeth, screen off, CBD drops under the tongue, reading a few pages. This regularity is more important than the exact time. You can read what studies have said about CBD and sleep so far in our article on CBD oil for sleep disorders.
Splitting the dose: 2–3 intakes per day
CBD only remains in the body for a limited time – you can find details in our article on how long CBD lasts. If you want to take CBD spread over the whole day, you therefore divide the daily amount: for example, one third each in the morning, at midday and in the evening. This way, you take smaller individual amounts each time.
An example: instead of 9 drops at once in the evening, you take 3 drops with each meal. Especially with higher-strength oils, many people find split intake more pleasant and easier to tolerate.
With or without food – which is better?
CBD is fat-soluble. When taken together with a meal containing fat, the body can absorb significantly more of it than on an empty stomach. Breakfast or dinner with healthy fats such as nuts, avocado, eggs or high-quality oils is ideal.
The carrier oil also plays a role: our organic CBD oils rely on high-quality Swiss organic and Demeter hemp seed oil, which naturally supports absorption and provides valuable omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Hold the oil under your tongue for around 60 seconds before swallowing – this way, part of the CBD enters the bloodstream directly through the oral mucosa.
Frequently asked questions about the time of intake
Does CBD oil make you tired in the morning?
At usual dosages, most users do not report tiredness. With very high amounts, some describe slight tiredness. If you are sensitive, try the first intake at the weekend.
Can I take CBD oil together with coffee?
Yes. No problematic interactions between CBD and caffeine are known. Important: if you take medication, first read our article on CBD interactions with medication and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
How long before sleep should I take CBD?
30 to 60 minutes before going to bed has proven effective. Taken sublingually, the effect usually sets in after 15 to 45 minutes.
Do I have to take CBD at the same time every day?
A fixed routine helps you not to forget to take it. It does not have to be accurate to the minute, though.
What happens if I forget a dose?
Nothing serious. Simply take the next dose at the usual time – not double the amount at once.
Conclusion: Whether in the morning, in the evening or divided up – find the routine that fits your everyday life and stick with it for two to three weeks. All our organic CBD oils in certified Demeter quality are produced in Switzerland and laboratory-tested.
