CBD for horses: oil & pellets at a glance

By Vapor Spirit Fachteam

More and more horse owners are interested in

CBD pellets for their animals. But what is known about cannabidiol CBD

in horses, and how are the pellets used in everyday life?

In this article you will learn everything important about the use

of CBD in horses, feeding, and what you

should look out for when buying.

CBD pellets for horses: what is known

CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid from the hemp plant.

Whether and how CBD acts in horses has only recently begun to be researched;

there is no reliable evidence so far.

It interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is involved in the

regulation of various bodily functions

Dosage of CBD pellets for horses

The right dosage of CBD pellets depends on the horse's weight and individual needs. It is generally recommended to start with a low dose and increase it slowly until the desired effect occurs. A common dosage is 1 to 2 mg CBD per kilogram of body weight per day.

Dosage recommendation:

  • Small horses (up to 400 kg): 20-40 mg CBD per day
  • Medium-sized horses (400-600 kg): 40-80 mg CBD per day
  • Large horses (over 600 kg): 80-100 mg CBD per day

It is important to observe the horse's reaction and adjust the dosage

accordingly. If in doubt, always consult a veterinarian.

Using CBD pellets

CBD pellets are easy to use and can be mixed directly into

the horse's feed. As the pellets are usually

neutral in taste or pleasant for horses, they are readily

accepted. CBD pellets also allow precise dosing

and are ideal for daily administration.

Why CBD pellets for your horse?

What many horse owners appreciate about CBD pellets

is that they are easy to feed and are made from

natural ingredients. How a horse responds to them

varies from individual to individual; undesirable

side effects cannot be ruled out. Since CBD is not psychoactive,

you do not need to worry about your horse getting "high".

When it comes to promoting your horse's well-being, there are many

different supplements on the market. Natural pellets, however, offer some

specific advantages compared with conventional options.

1. Easy to use

Natural pellets can be easily integrated into the daily feed

and are well accepted by most horses. Unlike liquid

or powdered supplements, pellets ensure even

dosing without fluctuations.

2. Natural ingredients

Our pellets consist exclusively of purely natural ingredients

that are carefully selected and processed. They are free from chemical

additives or artificial fillers, which makes them particularly well tolerated.

3. For regular feeding

Pellets can easily be built into a fixed feeding routine

and are easy to portion and store.

They are not a substitute for veterinary treatment

and are not intended to relieve stress or pain.

4. Notes for sensitive animals

For horses that react sensitively to certain ingredients,

it is worth taking a look at the composition. The pellets are

gently processed and made from selected

plant components.

Natural pellets and stressful situations

In their everyday lives, horses repeatedly face situations that can

cause stress. Whether during transport, at competitions or due to unfamiliar

environmental factors – stress can have a negative effect on the health and

the animal's behaviour. Whether CBD pellets have any influence in such

moments has not been scientifically proven.

Habituation, training and a calm environment are more important;

if stress behaviour persists, your veterinarian can help.

Joints and muscles: what is known

In connection with joints

and muscles, CBD for horses is also discussed. Especially for older horses or those in intensive training,

however, the following applies: ailments should be examined by a veterinarian.

There is no reliable evidence of pain relief from CBD pellets.

CBD horse pellets – feeding and quality

CBD horse pellets are a practical alternative to classic CBD oils when it comes to feeding horses. The cannabidiol they contain is gently extracted from the hemp plant and then processed into pellet form, which can easily be mixed into the usual feed. Many horse owners choose pellets because the dosage is easier to control than when dripping a CBD oil directly into the mouth.

Important to know: CBD has no intoxicating effect. In reputable Swiss products, the THC level is below the legal limits. How does CBD act in horses? Cannabidiol interacts – as in humans, dogs and cats – with the body's own endocannabinoid system. How this affects horses has hardly been researched so far; experience reports from owners are subjective and are no proof of an effect.

When buying, you should always pay attention to the declared CBD content. Only if the content per pellet or per 100 g is clearly stated can you match the amount properly to your horse's body weight. Always start with small amounts and increase the dosage slowly over several days – this allows the animal's organism to get used to the new complementary feed at its own pace.

CBD horse pellets – quality, dosage and use

How good CBD pellets are depends largely on the quality of the source material. A high-quality CBD oil from organic Swiss hemp cultivation forms the basis of good pellets: the purity of the CBD oil, gentle extraction methods and independent laboratory analyses determine how reliable the end product is. Look for full spectrum quality, because in addition to cannabidiol, terpenes and other plant substances from the hemp plant are also of interest for the so-called entourage effect.

One topic currently being researched is chronic pain in older horses, for example in connection with joint problems. Scientific studies on the effect of cannabidiol in animals are still ongoing – health claims are therefore not permitted, and CBD products are by no means a substitute for a visit to the veterinarian. Always discuss giving CBD with your veterinarian beforehand, especially for horses that are receiving medication.

For daily use: simply mix the pellets into the concentrated feed. Alternatively, a CBD hemp oil drizzled over the feed is also suitable – here the amount can be adjusted drop by drop. Give your horse two to four weeks to get used to the new feed before adjusting the amount. Store pellets in a cool, dry place protected from light so that the CBD content remains stable throughout the entire shelf life.

Tolerability of CBD in horses and dogs

The tolerability of CBD in horses and dogs is generally considered good, as both species have a so-called endocannabinoid system on which cannabidiol acts. Whether given as pellets or as CBD oils – it is advisable to start carefully with a low dosage before moving on to a higher CBD content. Observe your animal carefully and, if in doubt, consult your veterinarian.

Sustainability and quality

Another important aspect of our natural pellets is

sustainability. At Vapor Spirit we attach great importance to

ensuring that all products are manufactured under sustainable conditions.

We only work with suppliers who place the greatest importance on

environmentally friendly cultivation and processing methods.

In this way we ensure that both your horse and the environment benefit from

our products.

Experiences of horse owners

Many horse owners feed our natural pellets regularly. How a horse responds varies from individual to individual; experience reports are no substitute for a veterinary assessment.
